Showplace of Alaskan Lodges
Boardwalk is an Orvis-endorsed resort boasting some of Alaska’s finest salt and freshwater fishing. The beautiful hand-hewn log lodge sits in a sheltered cove on Prince of Wales Island, 42 miles from Ketchikan. The summer finds all five species of Pacific salmon: Chinook (king), Coho (silver), Sockeye (red), Humpback (pink) and Chum. You can also pursue barn-door size halibut aboard 26-foot cruisers or enjoy scenic solitude while fishing remote streams for steelhead, rainbow trout and dolly varden. Boardwalk accommodates just 12 guests. Your host, Lowell Nelson, and his staff will indulge you with warm, personalized service, luxurious rooms and gourmet meals prepared by world-class chefs.
Alaska, United States
Anglers can target a number of fresh and saltwater species in the fertile waters around Boardwalk Wilderness Lodge. Stream and river fishing consists of steelhead, rainbow trout and dolly varden. Stream and saltwater fishing involves all five species of Pacific salmon. For those that prefer the solitude of wading streams with the fly or spinning gear, you'll be treated to many nearby streams that offer fantastic salmon action. For those that would like to pursue a barn door size halibut, then hop aboard one of the 23-26 foot Olympic Ocean cruisers fitted with heated cabins and restrooms with one of the U.S. Cost Guard approved guides. There are even optional flyout trips available for a nominal fee. Your guide will even set out crab traps with you for dungeness crabs on the way to your fishing areas.

April to September. This southeastern portion of Alaska boasts a surprisingly moderate and comfortable climate throughout the entire fishing season, from April through September. In fact, over the past five years, Boardwalk anglers have not had to cancel a day of fishing due to inclement weather. For one of the most productive steelhead fisheries around, consider this destination in May and early June. You can expect a realistic 10 to 15 steelhead per angler, in a week's time at Boardwalk. King salmon are strong in June and July, as are the abundant sockeyes. Silver salmon action heats up July through August, while abundant pinks are migrating from August through September. Deep water halibut and cod fishing is just 100 yards off shore and is available throughout the entire season.
