& Season Preview
Reputable operators offered “Amazon Raincheck” options for many weeks, at considerable hassle, cost and frustration all around.
Meanwhile Delta Airline’s new "daily" non-stop service to Manaus, has been anything but daily so far. Many flights have been cancelled as passenger load dictates. While the new route and air fare competition have been welcomed, the unreliable scheduling makes for extra overnights in Manaus. Adding to the hassle factor are hefty fees for oversize baggage such as fishing rod tubes (a great argument for QuesTackle’s 3-piece travel rods).
And the last bit of joy comes from the Brazilian tourist visa process, which is now taking weeks instead of days thanks to a new “automated” visa system.
On the plus side, most operators have rescinded price increases for next season, seeing impact of economic difficulties worldwide. We have also added several less-expensive options to our established destination portfolio.
And of course, each high water year brings new life to the fishery as the baitfish populations explode. Keep your fingers crossed and hooks sharp next season will find rivers and lagoons back below their banks and hungry predators just waiting to chomp your bait!
