Despite all the buzz about bad weather and rain, the peacock bass fishing season seems to be shaping up as a “normal” year. If the trend continues, essentially the dry season will be relatively dry and the wet season - well, you got it. Of course the operative word is “relatively” and the cliché is “they don’t call it the rainforest for nothing.” Keep your fingers crossed. We are watching the weather.
That said we’re looking forward to getting our adrenaline pumping as we begin our annual jungle jaunts for predaceous peacocks. Here’s a preview:
This year we are hoping for a banner year for our Amazon Obsession trip. This trip features a very experienced Captain, Ian-Arthur de Sulocki, who is the International Game Fish Association (I. G. F. A.) representative, contributing editor of some magazines in Brazil and France, Director at the Fishing School of Rio de Janeiro, and holds several All Tackle records at IGFA.
His yacht, the fabulous Kalua is outfitted perfectly for a group of anglers. The boat accommodates up to 14 guests in the luxurious style that will make your fishing trip all that much more memorable. The 18 foot skiffs are each equipped with outboard motors and are ready for whatever fishing suites your needs: peacocks, catfish, baitcasting or flyfishing. The local guides are the best in the business and their goal is to put you onto the BIG fish. The service that Ian provides aboard the Kalua is second to none; the cuisine is some of the best offered in the Amazon.
Many different Amazon fish species such as payara, trahira and giant trahira, pirarucu (arapaima gigas) and giant catfish can be targeted as well as peacock bass. This brings variety to the fishing trip and offers flexibility when conditions are not necessarily optimal for peacocks. Kalua offers it all to the angler looking for great adventure, fishing and accommodations.
River Plate Anglers, now recognized as Brazil’s best strategic fishing option, has already begun its fly-in camp season with Alan Zaremba heading two weeks of fishing. There were some 20 pounders landed but it was greater numbers that marked these October trips. Although plagued by some serious weather, the trips were still fruitful. We are confident that this season will be a great season and that as usual the fishing offered by River Plate will lead the way in Amazon peacock bass fishing as the fly-in floating cabins are considered the most flexible way to fish the Amazon.
Whether it is the Kalua yacht or River Plate’s fly-in cabins you choose, you are guaranteed to have an adventure you won’t soon forget. Simply experiencing the overwhelming abundance of nature all around you, that is the Amazon, is a magical experience you won’t want to miss.
