CANADA: Lodges target pike, trout, bass, walleye
Bill Donnell shares a Kodak moment with his guide at Milton Lake Lodge
An early spring in northern Canada has allowed several of our lodges to open early this year. After the frenzy of ice-out fishing subsides, veteran guides expect pike and lake trout to feed aggressively during the longer season, resulting in heftier fish.
Over the past year, FishQuest has added three new Canadian lake destinations, in addition to our proven hotspots throughout the country. Here’s a quick rundown of our favorites places for selected species:
Big Pike, Walleye
Silsby Lake, Manitoba (NEW)
We added Silsby this year in response to several clients looking for quality Northern Pike fishing, along with abundant walleyes for shore lunch. With comfortable cabins, Silsby is a great choice for fishing buddies, couples, families and small corporate groups, while outpost camps offer adventure nearby.
Monster Lake Trout, Big Pike
Tazin Lake, Saskatchewan (NEW)
We know Sean Coleman from his earlier days with Wollaston Lake, so when he told us he had a new hot spot we were all ears. Trout exceeding 50 pounds and pike up to 40 pounds have been recorded at Tazin Lake in recent years. Now don’t go getting your hopes up…..well, go ahead!
Big Pike, Lake Trout, Grayling
Milton Lake, Saskatchewan (NEW)
This new luxury lodge sits on the edge of the near virgin waters of Milton Lake. The amenities are 5-star, the meals delicious and the fishing downright spectacular. This lodge was recently featured on Outdoor Life Network’s “Quest for the One” show.
Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Pike, Musky
Pipestone Lake, Ontario
Our favorite spot for big smallmouths and a variety of other northern species, Pipe-stone is an easy getaway destination. With a dozen portage lakes to choose from, you can match your day to your fishing interests and local conditions. Comfortable lodging and great meals round out the equation.
Cutthroat, Bull Trout
Elk Valley Lodge, British Columbia
If you’re looking for world-class flyfishing amid some of North America’s most beautiful scenery, this could be your next destination. Float and wade-walk trips with top-notch guides will make your experience enjoyable, while inn-style accommodations and dining options add a touch of class.
